The Consequences of a DUI Conviction in Washington State

Most Washington DUI charges begin as gross misdemeanors. According to RCW §46.61.5055, if you are found guilty of a DUI at the gross misdemeanor level, you could spend up to 364 days in a Washington County jail and pay up to $5,000 in fines. You may also be subject to mandatory minimum jail terms depending on the number of convictions on your record and your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels at the time of your arrest.

However, these are just the penalties associated with a first-time conviction. If you have three or more DUI convictions on your record, your penalties could dramatically increase. You could have your driver’s license suspended for up to four years, be required to complete a drug or alcohol treatment program, and be required to use an ignition interlock device (IID) for up to 10 years.
